Σκιές Ευκαιριών

Ακόμη μια μέρα έγειρε και πέρασε,

Σαν όλες, μα γεμάτη αόρατα βάθη.

Πλήθος εμπειριών και σιωπηλών ευκαιριών,

Άλλες τις πιάσαμε, κι άλλες τις αφήσαμε να φύγουν.

Κι ίσως ποτέ στη ζωή μας να μη μάθουμε,

ποιες απ’ όλες είχαν τη βαρύτητα:

Αυτές που κρατήσαμε σφιχτά,

ή εκείνες π’ αφήσαμε πίσω;

                                    ΚΒΓ

Shadows of Opportunities

Another day has bowed and passed,

like all, but filled with unseen depths.

A multitude of experiences and silent opportunities,

some we grasped, and others we let slip away.

And perhaps never in our lives shall we learn,

which of them all carried the weight:

Those we held tightly,

or those we left behind?

Christmas Story!

Christmas Eve Night! A heavy Christmas Eve hung over the world. Outside, the cold cut like a knife through an eerie frost. Inside, the house was equally glacial—a silent freeze that seemed to have sucked all the warmth out of the hearth. An old woman sat alone in her carved wooden rocking chair by the window of the frost-rimed room. She held a family photograph, yellowed by time, clutched in her hands with a sacred intensity. A threadbare, tattered blanket struggled to keep even a flickering warmth within her frail, withered body. Beside her, a lamp blackened by soot and low on oil cast only a faint, yellowish whisper of light into the dense shadows. The old woman gazed with a vacant, unfocused look out the window, her head nodding rhythmically to the motion of the chair. It moved like a steady pendulum, carrying her thoughts far away, beyond the seas and the mountains. Her weary spirit abandoned her tired body and flew to foreign lands to find her only son, whom she had not seen...
