Ο Χαμός της Μάνας - Mother's Loss

My Greek poems! English version below.

Mother's Loss

I watched you rise, ascendant from the East,

a bright and solitary star you were.

Your light suffused my life, a beacon, clear,

for all you are, my soul gives thanks and love.

The church bells toll a final, fading chime

and watch you turn and leave. My soul is grief-torn.

Though countless other stars may cross the night,

their pale celestial fire cannot replace your light.

You sink, receding toward the distant West.

I brush away the tears and hold my breath.

We know we follow you, in time, beyond this breath;

we come, though we may never find your radiant place.

  1. A loving heart warm heart poem. I was so touched by the poem because i lost my mom when i was far away with her. A mother's love is irreplaceable, which makes losing her to death an incredibly painful experience. Thank you for your beautiful words and this poem is really beautiful and loved it. I read twice and sadness fills my heart. Thank you for sharing it with me.
