Λησμονιά

Πάει καιρός πολύς να μου μιλήσεις,

φαίνεται θ’ αποφάσισες για να με λησμονήσεις.

 

Θυμάμαι τότε π’ έλεγες φίλοι θ’ ήμαστε πάντα,

μα ο καιρός σαν πέρασε με έβαλες στην πάντα.

 

Τα μάτια που δεν βλέπονται γρήγορα λησμονούνται,

και οι καλοί οι φίλοι μας ούτε που μας θυμούνται.

Forgetfulness

A long, long time has passed since you have spoken to me,

it seems you have decided to completely forget me.

 

I recall the time you would promise friends we would remain,

but once the time went by, you cast me to the vain.

 

The eyes that do not see each other quickly turn to void,

and our very best companions are simply unemployed.

Christmas Story!

Christmas Eve Night! A heavy Christmas Eve hung over the world. Outside, the cold cut like a knife through an eerie frost. Inside, the house was equally glacial—a silent freeze that seemed to have sucked all the warmth out of the hearth. An old woman sat alone in her carved wooden rocking chair by the window of the frost-rimed room. She held a family photograph, yellowed by time, clutched in her hands with a sacred intensity. A threadbare, tattered blanket struggled to keep even a flickering warmth within her frail, withered body. Beside her, a lamp blackened by soot and low on oil cast only a faint, yellowish whisper of light into the dense shadows. The old woman gazed with a vacant, unfocused look out the window, her head nodding rhythmically to the motion of the chair. It moved like a steady pendulum, carrying her thoughts far away, beyond the seas and the mountains.
